A group of HGV drivers from P&H Haulage – on behalf of the JD Sports Distribution Center at Kingsway, Rochdale – will be climbing Scafell Pike on 10 June to raise money and awareness of mental health issues.
Darren Hibbert, who climbed Snowdon last year with some of his colleagues, decided to tackle England’s highest peak in a similar vein.
Joined by several others, the group has been training by climbing up Blackstone Edge and Windy Hill, and hopes to raise £1,000 for Mind. Darren will be joined by Chris Bullock, Michael Rooney, Richard Pattie, Ryan Parry, Joshua Mackrell, Dawn Randle, John Bauld and Richard Kaoiki.
P&H Haulage will provide transport on the day and has covered the costs of t-shirts for the climb.

Darren said: “We’d like to raise £1,000 and a couple of people have sponsorship forms so we’re about three-quarters of the way there.
“Next year I’m looking at Scotland, then the highest peaks in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
“Finally, I would like to dedicate this walk for Mind to my ever supportive wife who has herself had cause to call on Mind in the past, bless her and forever my love.”

Last year, Darren and a team of six others, made up of HGV drivers and a JD Sports dispatch supervisor, scaled Snowdon in September. After tackling Wales’ highest mountain, the group raised over £1,200 for mental health charity Mind and The Christie.

The idea was originally borne after a colleague took his own life last year, and the group wanted to raise awareness of the help Mind offers, as well as the hard work The Christie does to help people battling cancer.
