Johannes with his book
Time travel is a popular fictional trope that keeps raising the question; Are there real time travelers?
While conscious time travel will seem impossible from 2021 onwards, there are countless anecdotes from ordinary people who have experienced a “time slip” – a brief visit to another time.
Those interested in paranormal and seemingly true events will most likely have heard of time slips in the Bold Street area of Liverpool, but several reports closer to home have been compiled in a new book called Threads of Time ” summarized.
Written by John Harris Abraham – AKA JP Harris – of Littleborough, the compilation recounts the experiences of those who seem to have taken a brief journey back in time, including one regarding the now demolished Dunster House in Rochdale and another in the North Manchester area.
In 1983 Derek Gibson of Cornwall was visiting the north Manchester area for a family wedding and appeared to experience two time shifts ten minutes apart.
Unfamiliar with the area, he went to church the day before to find the church. On arrival he described it as dilapidated and shabby – but moments later the church looked brand new. The weather had also changed from a dull and cloudy day to a bright sunny day.
Derek also reported seeing people wearing different clothes, including a woman with an umbrella and an out-of-date hairstyle. The scene changed before his eyes and brought him back to the rundown church.
About ten minutes later, Derek experienced a similar “slip” when he saw a block of modern shops suddenly change nearby. Then the scene vanished before his eyes as before, replaced by modern shops and the surrounding streets and the noise and hustle and bustle of a busy street that passed right in front of him.
John, who has a self-proclaimed interest in phenomena, said, “’Threads of Time’ is a compilation of reports put together by people who may have made a brief foray into another time zone or have slipped into another dimension.
“During 1999-2001 I was active on a number of Internet chat-based forums where the main topic was ‘Strange But Real Occurrences.’
“I used these pages for ideas because at the time I was writing a non-fiction book about interdimensional travel and wanted to get more insights.
“I remember four cases that I documented and archived.”
Subjects of the time cover
In 2019, John began putting together a book on Time Lapse Events, where he could pull his notes from his previous contacts in the phenomenon-based chat rooms. He started doing research and contacted writers like Jenny Randles, Tom Slemen, and Jim Penniston – all of whom wrote about inexplicable incidents like the infamous Bold Street timelines.
Commenting on John, “I have also brokered and sought permission for content from the Daily Express, Prada, and other media outlets and academic institutions around the world.”
While Derek Gibson’s 1983 report was published with permission from Jenny Randle’s book “Supernatural Pennines,” John was given a firsthand anecdote of a 1967 time slip at Rochdale’s Dunster House.
In 1967 a young boy – known only as DM – lived near Dunster House on Manchester Road. It was empty for as long as he could remember, and he passed it every day when he went to school. DM was always curious whether someone actually lived there and what was hidden behind the huge wall to the house.
When he returned from school one afternoon, DM noticed that the gate was open. When he peered through, he saw the most impressive garden he had ever seen, and an old woman in a long black dress and a distinctive bonnet. She looked at DM with a curious expression on her face before asking if he would like to see.
A frightened DM went into a garden where he saw wisteria, weeping willows, circling a fountain depicting the Roman god Bacchus.
John added, “DM is very pragmatic. When I met him, he appeared to be a no-nonsense, no-nonsense type. For ‘paranormal, conspiracy theories etc.’ he has no time.
“To support his profile, he is a retired engineer and has a scientific approach to problem solving.
“After deliberation, DM guessed that the hood style was from the mid Victorian era, possibly from the 1840s. I asked him how long he had been there and he replied, ‘Could be an hour.’ “
As DM continued to explore the grounds, he noticed that the old woman was now on the other side of the garden, walking through the door of a black wrought iron shed. He wanted to get her attention before leaving to thank her for looking around.
“He told me, ‘She just disappeared. I noticed the door was still open and looked in, nothing – it just disappeared, ‘”said John. “There was no entry point into the house at all.”
Dunster House was later demolished in November 1968.
John continued, “Regarding the Derek Gibson event in 1983, the actual location was not mentioned but it was indicated that it was near north Manchester.
“However, I did the research myself; In my estimation, the church Derek attended is in Crumpsall, possibly off Delaunays Road, not far from North Manchester Hospital.
“I looked at old maps to evaluate possible factors. I wanted to find other aspects of Dunster House as well. “
John says he likes to “keep a coherent approach to why these things happen,” adding, “The little boy who may have returned to a garden that wasn’t there, I have two other similar cases of boys in the same age. ”that have slipped into other timelines and dimensions.
“Perhaps children are predisposed to experience strange events and possible geological factors; If sites contain quartz or are near fault lines, this can sometimes lead to unusual events. “
With degrees in archeology and geography, John researches and documents prehistoric structures and rock carvings. He is currently working in web content management. Another of his interests is exploring the city, during which he photographs and films abandoned buildings such as air raid shelters, tunnels and mines from the Second World War.
Threads of Time is available in both paperback and e-book from Amazon.
