St Andrew’s, Dearnley
We change the clocks this weekend, but please note that the start of our main service of the week, Sung Eucharist tomorrow (Sunday) morning is at 10.30am, not the usual 9.30am, and that has nothing to do with the end of British summertime.
We kick of at 10.30am new time purely because tomorrow is the fifth Sunday of the month and when there are five Sundays in any particular month we go for the later start to suit those who are partial to the Sung Eucharist, but can’t make it at 9.30am, our usual start time.
See you in church tomorrow then … at 10.30 am.
Also tomorrow, we have our usual All Souls Service at 3pm when we remember, pray for and thank all those loved ones who are no longer with us, but who did so much to see us on our way and to set us up for life.
Many of them were themselves part of the faithful St Andrew’s flock – a time, indeed, to reflect; to remember; and to show our gratitude to so many of our forefathers and foremothers who worshiped with us at St Andrew’s or at other churches throughout the country.
Needless to say, we hope to see plenty of new faces in church to light a candle to former loves ones and to hear their names read out when we pray for them.
Talking of new faces, they were in plentiful supply last Saturday at our Autumn Fair when we raised the magnificent sum of £850.
Thanks to all who helped, all who attended and spent their hard-earned cash in these difficult times, and thanks to everyone who baked cakes and biscuits or made jams, chutneys and other preserves.
Talking of food, please continue to bring in items for Rochdale Foodbank – the need has never been greater – and please note that our next Mothers Union meeting on Monday, November 7 (2pm) will take place at Cuppachino, off Hare Hill Road in Littleborough .
That’s the cafe, restaurant, call it what you want, inside the Rest Home in Hare Hill Park near the library with access off Hare Hill Road.
Also, we will soon be announcing a scheme, called Wider Welcome Wednesday, when the church, warm and inviting, will be open each Wednesday for anyone to come in for a chat, to keep warm if energy is too dear to put the heating on at home, and even to have something to eat.
Church warden Janice Perkins (07730367919), one of the main organizers, said: “This is for anyone and we do mean ANYONE. It’s all linked with the current cost of living, which affects everyone, so we’ll be welcoming all to come in to Church where they’ll be able to keep warm, have something to eat and drink and spend some time with us in a warm environment.
“We’re in a cost-of-living crisis and this is one way St Andrew’s and the Church of England can do its bit for the community.”
