A ruptured water tank at a Rochdale factory disrupted the area’s tram network this afternoon.
At 4 p.m. the police were called to a commercial property on Station Road that was believed to be a factory.
Then it was discovered that a water tank had burst at the construction site – with photos of the scene showing that the metal wall of a factory was bent and pierced.

No violations have been reported, GMP confirmed.
“Today at around 4pm, the police were called to report a burst water tank on a commercial property on Station Road in Milnrow,” a police spokesman said on Sunday (January 2nd) at 5pm.
“The emergency service is currently on duty and an investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances.
“No injuries have been reported and the police are asking people to avoid the area.
“There will be traffic obstructions on the tram lines.”
Tram managers also had to stop traffic in the area, although the warnings of disruptions disappeared at 5.30 p.m.
This afternoon there was a period of non-Metrolink service between Rochdale Town Center and Shaw & Crompton.

Residents also reported being evacuated from their homes on social media, with one passerby saying it was “terrifying”.
“I was on the street when it happened,” said a woman on a local Facebook group. “[It] scared life out of me, tore down the shutters [the factory] and a lot of water streamed out. “
Others reported seeing fire engines and ambulances, as well as police officers.
