Carlisle United supports Cumbria LGBT Pride in Boxing Day against Rochdale

Carlisle United will support Cumbria LGBT Pride in their Boxing Day game against Rochdale.

The group will have collection bins and will be selling goods at Brunton Park Fortification on Sunday.

United says this is one of several initiatives planned.

“Football is for everyone and we are excited to support Cumbria Pride and its work in the community,” said Blues CEO Nigel Clibbens on the club’s website.

“We’ll be working with them on a number of initiatives in the future and it’s great to see the group support the club.”

Cumbria LGBT Pride Chairwoman Jane-Ann Clark added, “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Carlisle United and Carlisle United Supporters’ Groups (CUSG) for their support and to allow us to attend Boxing Day as this is happening It is helpful to raise funds for our charity, to organize free events and to let people know who we are.

“We are really proud to work in partnership with the club and CUSG to promote recognition that football is for EVERYONE!

“In February 2022 we will sponsor the ball for the game against Swindon Town and be there to celebrate LGBT + History Month.

“In addition, we will be back with our own team in April 2022 to take part in the CUOSC Cup tournament.

“This time of year can be very tough for members of the LGBT community, especially when family or friends are not on board for who they are.

“The past few years have been exceptionally tough for some with the added complication of Covid.”

Nigel Davidson of the CUSG support group added: “We welcome the group to Brunton Park on Boxing Day and hope our supporters will help them raise funds for such a good cause in Cumbria so that they can do their great work in support of LGBTQ + -Community can continue in the district.

“We’re also looking forward to seeing you again in February for LGBT History Month.”
