James Rowberry: Newport County Suspicious of Dangerous Rochdale

NEWPORT County AFC are set to move up this afternoon with victory at ailing Rochdale, but League Two manager James Rowberry isn’t fooled by the League Two table, Chris Kirwan writes.

The exiles will overtake Port Vale, whose clash with Exeter City has been postponed, if they score three wins on the spin.

You are traveling against a Rochdale side who were relegated last season and have a winless streak of six games.

The Dale are 18th, eight points behind the relegation zone, but Rowberry has warned they pose a serious threat.

“If you look at their stats, they have the fourth highest expected goals in the league and one of the highest ball possession,” said the manager.

“Your results did not quite follow your performance.

“They let in more goals than they scored, but what I and my staff have seen are a well-organized and well-trained team.

“It’s going to be a really challenging game and a really technical, interesting game with their 3-4-3.”

Rochdale manager Robbie Stockdale has no new injury concerns.

Midfielder Jimmy Keohane is out with a broken foot sustained against Stevenage last month, but otherwise Stockdale has a fully functional roster.

He got a boost last weekend with the return of Jimmy McNulty and Alex Newby, who could be back in the starting XI.
