“I don’t welcome it” – Steven Gerrard strikes back against Jürgen Klopp’s rumors in Liverpool
Steven Gerrard admits he doesn’t welcome the speculation linking him to Jürgen Klopp’s replacement in Liverpool.
Entering her fourth season as head of Rangers, the Liverpool legend secured her first top division title in 10 years in March.
The former England international took on his first leadership role when he moved to Scotland in 2018 after working at the Reds’ Academy under Klopp.
The success of Gerrard’s team last season ended a prolonged period of dominance for Celtic, who were aiming for the tenth consecutive championship title at the beginning of last season.
But the way the 40-year-old resurrected the Glasgow giants in his first leadership position leaves many to speculate on whether he might succeed Klopp on Anfield Road in the future.
But when Gerrard was asked about the prospect of one day becoming Liverpool or even England boss, Gerrard quickly downplayed the ties.
“I cannot control media speculation about my position,” he told ESPN when asked about the links.
“I don’t welcome it, I’m not adding anything. I’m just focusing on the job I have here and I’m very flattered and grateful for the position.
“I’m very happy here, I’ve said it many times, it’s a huge club, I’m relaxed, I’m happy and can develop and try to push this team forward.”

Liverpool midfielder confirms Manchester United transfer after rejecting contract
Ethan Ennis has confirmed his move to Manchester United after leaving Liverpool Academy this summer.
Earlier this month, ECHO announced that the 16-year-old was in talks with both the Red Devils and Chelsea after turning down a Reds scholarship offer.
And he has now revealed in a social media post with pictures from Old Trafford that he has reached a deal with Liverpool’s bitter rival United.
The caption read: “I’m delighted to announce that I’ve signed with Manchester United. I’m grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
Liverpool are now owed a development fee for Ennis that can be ruled by a court should the two clubs fail to reach an agreement.
