Greater Manchester was preparing for thunderstorms when a 36-hour

Greater Manchester is expected to be hit by thunderstorms as a 36-hour warning of disruption has been issued.

The Met Office has warned of potential floods and travel disruptions as the storms will move in from later this week.

Most of the country enjoys extended periods of hot and sunny weather, but that could come to an abrupt end.

The weather service issued a yellow warning of thunderstorms from 6 p.m. on Wednesday to 6 a.m. on Friday.

The warning applies to the whole of Greater Manchester, including some parts of Lancashire, Yorkshire and other areas of the country.

According to the Met Office, cloudy and more volatile weather could move in across the region from Wednesday.

“Wednesday will be cloudy with patchy rains,” they said.

“Risk of heavy, possibly thunderstorm showers overnight through Thursday with largely cloudy skies during the day.

“Sunny sayings and maybe a shower on Friday.”

They added, “Some locations are likely to see thunderstorms later Wednesday through Friday with the potential for travel disruptions and flooding.”

The weather service has warned of a small risk that homes and businesses could be quickly flooded, with some buildings being damaged by floods, lightning strikes, hail and high winds.

In the event of floods or lightning strikes, there may be delays and, in some cases, failures of train and bus connections

Spray and sudden flooding can create difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
